Mega Scaffold (UK) Ltd can provide and erect every type of access scaffolding on request. Please see our photos for examples of our past and current projects.

We can erect independent scaffolding for safe access to any building work and all types of extensions, roof maintenance and repairs, facias, guttering and soffits, window replacements, external or internal maintenance and decorating, stairs, all types of new builds, temporary roofs (Monaflex or Tin), cavity wall insulation, scaffold hoarding, fence hoarding and debris netting installation. Plus much, more! Please give us a call, as we can erect any type of scaffolding on request.

The types of scaffolding we can erect are:-

INDEPENDENT SCAFFOLDING -

Independent scaffolding is the most common type scaffold and can be erected on the majority of properties in the UK. Independent scaffolding can be erected on domestic homes for painting, decorating, building, renovations, maintenance and roof works. Independent scaffolding can also be erected on all types of commercial, leisure and Industrial premises/properties, internally and externally. An independent scaffold consists of a double row of standards, with each row parallel to the building. The inner row is set as close to the building as is practicable. The distance between the lines of standards should be the minimum necessary to accommodate the required number of boards and toe boards.

ACCESS SCAFFOLD TOWERS:-

An access tower scaffold can be incorporated into many different types of scaffolding platforms to provide access to an unreachable area such as a chimney stack or over a conservatory.
Access towers are usually built in small areas that need access to high level works maybe down the side of a conservatory to take alloy beams over the conservatory for working on soffits and fascias. Access towers can be 1m – 6m in length and built up to roof level if needed to work on a chimney stack for re-pointing or re-building. Access towers can be erected to support a hoist for flat roofing works. The tower is erected to roof level with a mast hoist tied to the tower for support giving access to the works and a platform for lifting materials up to the working area. Scaffolding towers can be used for supporting rubbish chutes for restoration or new build projects with an access ladder included if needed.

HANDRAIL/EDGE PROTECTION/GUARD RAIL/SAFETY RAIL -

Edge protection handrails are used for providing a safe place of work whilst working on roofs or slab edges. There are many different uses for edge protection handrails including providing a double handrail and triple handrail as per current regulations to create a safe working environment for the construction of new built warehouses or for re-roofing flat roofs. With the industrial type of edge protection handrails to steel frame warehouses the scaffolding is usually fixed using steel clamps off the existing steel columns with the double handrail positioned at the correct heights to allow the roofing contractor to install the new roof covering. With this option an access tower will be erected for the roofing contractor to access the roof level.
Flat roofing edge protection on most occasions starts from the ground level with scaffold tubes standing upright against the building with the horizontal scaffold tubes at roof level providing the double handrail needed to complete the works. These types of handrail can be tied using additional scaffold tubes as rakers of can be drilled to the building to add stability depending on location. Flat roofs at high levels use the drilled fixings to install edge protection handrail and scaffold uprights sometimes will not reach from the ground level. Even with this option an access tower will usually be erected to access the works.
Edge protection handrails can also provide protection on concrete slabs. This type of handrail is set up in the same way the flat roof handrail is erected and can be moved progressively with concrete slab works.

BIRDCAGE-SCAFFOLDING/LAYDOWN SCAFFOLDING -

A birdcage scaffold consists of a mass of standards arranged at regular intervals in parallel lines, usually evenly spaced apart. These standards are laced together with a grid of ledgers and transoms at every lift height. The top lift is boarded to form the access platform for work on ceilings and soffits, e.g. fix lighting, ventilation or sprinklers over an inside area.
Birdcage scaffolds are usually erected to cover large internal areas for edge protection and access to internal works.
Birdcage/Crashdeck scaffolding is a large area of scaffolding platform erected for edge protection whilst floor areas are being constructed as a means of fall protection or to create a working platform for the installation of floor areas. Birdcage scaffolding can be installed in staircases for re-decoration works erecting the scaffolding over a staircase making access to the works achievable. Internal birdcages are used for painting or decorating large internal roof areas making a large flat platform for access including access to install lighting or heating if needed. They have the top lifts boarded only and the scaffolding is positioned at the levels required for the works with an internal ladder to access each level. This is a normally a light duty scaffold with a loading of 1.5kn per square meter but can be erected as a heavy duty support scaffold with a loading of 3kn per square meter depending on the works that need to be done. You can also incorporate a support scaffold built up with an access birdcage to create a working platform and support of the roof to complete the works if needed.

ROOF-SADDLE/CHIMNEY SCAFFOLDING-

Generally agreed to mean the foundation for a scaffold erected on a pitched roof, when chimneys are to be repaired. Roof saddles are generally erected when minor repairs are made, e.g. replacing chimney pots, or re - pointing etc.- A safe means of access or egress must always be provided, and this will usually comprise an access tower with walkway onto scaffold.
Chimney scaffolds are used for obtaining access to those difficult to reach chimney stacks for a variety of purposes including re-pointing or re-building. To access a chimney stack an access scaffold tower will be erected from the ground level up to the gutter level then access is obtained by erecting a series of scaffolding lifts on the roof to give access to the works. Chimney stack scaffolding can be erected for the re- installation of lead work to the base of a chimney if needed or if access is needed for demolition scaffolding can be positioned at levels required for the removal of a chimney stack and then the re-building if needed. Chimney stacks that are positioned on the ridge line are accessible with the possibility of an additional platform at the rear as well by erecting scaffolding from the platform erected at the front of the building.
If you require the cappings to be removed or replaced this is obtained by erecting a chimney stack scaffold with an extra lift on top of the platform to gain the height needed for the works. These types of access scaffolding can be used for many different access solutions giving you a safe place of work whilst working at high level.

STACK SCAFFOLD -

This type of scaffold, because of the position of the chimney, requires an access scaffold.• Roof stacks are erected where more substantial repairs are required i.e. demonstration and/or rebuilding of chimney in situation where the stack is in such a position as to make the erection of a saddle scaffold impracticable.

SUSPENDED SCAFFOLD -

Suspended scaffolds are often used to provide access and working platforms in the construction, alteration, inspection, repair, refurbishment and maintenance of high rise buildings, industrial plant, bridges and other large structures

TEMPORARY ROOF SCAFFOLDS -

A temporary roof scaffold is a scaffold structure used to cover a building during bad weather to allow internal works or roof works to take place.
Access scaffolding is erected to the gutter line to give access to the works then additional scaffolding is erected upwards to the ridge line or over a flat roof area with alloy beams installed to span the roof as not to bear any load onto the building and then covered with corrugated sheeting and tied down with roofing couplers and scaffold tube. Plastic Monaflex sheeting is usually installed from the underside of the alloy beams down to the gutter level to help keep the structure dry whilst works proceed but can continue down to ground level if needed to complete the works.
There are different types of temporary roofs from the traditional corrugated sheeting to a canvas type cover which uses a deeper alloy beam to span further distances. These types of temporary roofing can be designed if needed.
Temporary roofs can cover small areas such as semi-detached property`s for re-roofing works or loft conversions or even blocks of flats for flat roofing works or penthouse installations.

When you need a temporary roof over your scaffold, Mega Scaffold (UK) Ltd has the solution. The Temporary Roof System is quick to erect and can be built on Traditional scaffolding. Constructed from high strength aluminium beams with a steel framework the Temporary Roof System can achieve spans in excess of 25m. The Temporary Roof System can be used on standard 450mm aluminium beams or the deeper 750mm aluminium beams.

PROTECTION/FAN SCAFFOLDING:-

Protection fan scaffolding is a structure that extends from the perimeter of the scaffold to protect people from falling objects and debris.

CANTILEVER SCAFFOLDING:-

The cantilever scaffold is a type of scaffolding, that is attached to the main structure at one end and cantilever balanced. It's set up like a plank or diving board and can be used for single level projects.
Cantilever scaffolding is a standalone scaffold constructed to angle out from a structure when it is impossible to base the scaffolding on the ground due to an obstacle. It is generally supported on only one end. Although application is sometimes limited, cantilever scaffolds are generally speciality scaffolds and have the ability to hold an average workman and supplies. They are usually positioned near balconies or ledges for access.

Detailed/specialized-CAD/Smart scaffolder-drawings & quotations:-

Scaffold design is used when it is not a basic scaffold construction or if the scaffolding is a specialist piece of scaffold like a temporary roof or support scaffold.

Scaffold design is used to give the contractor any guideline drawings and advice notes when erecting a specialist piece of scaffold that may be a temporary roof with a large span or a support scaffold that has to be designed to take an enormous amount of loadings or pressure. The scaffolding design is discussed and drawn up before the contract starts, giving us and the customer an exact drawing with calculations of what scaffolding will be erected and how. The design scaffold is then erected to the drawings and then handed over once completed.
